Jonny Green (b. 1966 UK) graduated from the Royal College of Art with a Masters degree in Fine Art (painting).
Jonny Green’s paintings are precise renderings of very imprecise, rather expressionistic sculptures that live somewhere between still life and portraiture. Previously working in a quick and intuitive ‘stream of conscious’ manner, Green’s latest works reflect a shift in practice towards a more labour-intensive journey of building sculptural objects, photographing them and then painting these images in a pseudo-documentary style. By doing so, Green embarks on a transformative process that manipulates and elevates small discarded objects into sculptural combines that adopt a monumentality and hint at anthromorphic personality. Through a process of excavation and metamorphosis, Green’s ambigious characters acquire an othernss that is at once flawed, abject, non-specific, unromanticised and mesmerising.
